Letting Go

My mind wasn't in it yesterday and it wasn't in it today. So, time to listen and take a little step back. The 24 will just have to wait. When I look at my Strava log for the past 5 weeks, I see that I've run 7+ hours every week since the week of Wapack - 7:57 that week; 7:01; 7:14; 7:06 and 8:47 last week. Now, I realize for some that might not be a lot, but when I look back to the first 5 months of 2015, I see only six 7+ hour weeks overall! So, perhaps it isn't a surprise that my brain is feeling a bit tired. I'd say my legs feel fairly solid, but the mind, well, it needs a break. I feel a certain amount of pressure with this whole training/100 thing. Most of it internal and perceived, for sure, but that doesn't make it any less real. I want to do well, and I want to put in the training to make it happen. I really want to stick to the training plan I've put together, but let's face it, that plan is a bit arbitrary and since this is an experiment, I have no way to knowing if I can hit the mileage goals on the plan and if what I've laid out is really the right thing to do. This week, I have strayed way far from the plan. But I feel ok with it. I realize this whole training for a 100 thing is a process. I have 3+ months to go. No need to burn out now. So, with that, I think I'll take a quick shower and get back into bed until Sam wakes up ;) Then it is off to Wolfe's Neck for a night of camping!

6 leisurely miles on the cart paths this morning. Saw one red-spotted newt and one skunk on hole #4. Almost ran into him - got about 3 feet from him before I looked up and realized he was at the edge of the cart path. I think I startled him too - he raised his tail but didn't spray, and then just stopped and sniffed the air before trundling off into the deep grasses.

Very Smart. If you're not looking forward to running, you're overtraining. Keep it up!
