2000 Miles

Started off the week with a walk on the indoor track during Sam's swim practice on Monday afternoon. (2.35 miles walked)

Neglected to get out of bed on Tuesday morning, so it was an afternoon run on the cart paths. Felt a bit sluggish - afternoon runs are never my best runs. One deer seen and a new pair of shoes to try out. We shall see. (6.0 miles)

Did manage to get myself out the door into the early morning darkness on Thursday for a run after saying 'nah' to running on Wednesday with its rain and wind. Ran the Highland Green loop. Lots of black ice slicks underfoot and Christmas lights shimmering through the darkness. (6.0 miles)

Friday, after several weeks where it didn't work out for one reason or another, I met up with Anne, Mindy and Keri for a run at Pineland! It was so nice to see everyone - it had been way too long! I got there a bit early and ran a few miles on the campus side before looping back to the lot to pick everyone up. Keri is coming back from some knee issues, so we had a nice short mellow meander and then continued our conversation, which is always the most important part anyway!, inside at the Market over food and coffee. So glad it worked out that we could get together and run and catch up πŸ’— (3.0 miles solo + 3.1 with the ladies)

Mt. Washington was looking nice and white in the distance

I woke up feeling kind of uninspired on Saturday morning and the weather seemed to match my mood. Overcast, damp, spitting rain and windy as I headed out for a road loop over the two bridges. One eagle perched on the railroad bridge. (8.0 miles)

Sam had her second swim meet of the season in the afternoon, so after dropping her off at the Y, I came back home and we settled on the couch with the Western States lottery on the TV and the meet on the computer πŸ˜‰πŸ˜† With only two tickets once again this time around, and a record number of entrants and tickets into the lottery, chances were only a little above 1% that my name would actually get pulled - much less than in December 2018 when I had two tickets and an 3% chance - but you have to try! And then of course, you have to watch and hope as that is part of the fun too. Alas, my name was not pulled, but that's OK, that just means there is time and energy for other races and adventures in 2023 😊

Sam swam really well, but unfortunately, she had been feeling sniffly since Thursday and I think that and the extra exertion of the swim meet caught up to her, so she was pretty wiped out by Saturday evening and really not feeling great by the time she woke up on Sunday. We cancelled all our previously planned excursions with her and she stayed in her bed and/or on the couch all day. Poor kid. We've been hit since the start of school with a lot of yuck! It's not a total surprise given that we now have none of the restrictions that kept us from getting those nasty cold germs the past few years during the pandemic, but still, ugh! Hoping she can shake it off and feel better soon.

So leaving Sam and Ryan at home, I headed over to Bowdoin to meet up with Emily for a run. Haven't seen her in ages so it was great to catch up! A bright, cool and breezy morning for a run out through the Commons, Coleman Farms and the Landing trails. Always fun to run on my favorite trails with a friend! 😊 And then we headed to Wild Oats where Ryan met up with us for lunch (and we brought Sam home a treat), so that was fun too! (8.7 miles)

Hit 2,000 miles for the year midway through the run - hurray! πŸŽ‰There are four full weeks of the year left, but I don't honestly know if I'm going to be able to pull off the 200 miles to make it an even 2,200 and equal to my 2020 and 2021 mileage, but I'll put in a bit of work and see what I can do. (For comparison: hit 2,000 miles this year on 12/4, last year was 11/24, 11/28 in 2020, 12/7 in 2019, 12/9 in 2018 and 12/31 in 2017.)

In other news, here are some photos of the kitties being cute 😻
