Finished up Sunday with a late afternoon walk down to Dairy Queen with Sam and her friend, Abby, who lives in the neighborhood. I had suggested a walk earlier, which Sam had rejected, but DQ and a friend makes it much more fun 😂😀 Beautiful afternoon for a walk and talk and DQ with the girls! (2.0 miles walked)
Then Mother Nature decided we should go back to winter for a while 😐😡 and a bunch of rain and slush and snow fell on Monday, which froze solid overnight. Didn't quite get myself up and out on time, so just did a short loop through the neighborhood. Still, no big deal, as I was intending on just a few easy runs this week in prep for Traprock this weekend.
Wore my screwshoes but the ice was solid due to temps in the 20s so it wasn't the most pleasant of miles. Looked possibly nicer out on the powerlines but I knew roads would be quicker so I stuck with that. Despite the conditions, it was a lovely morning with a pretty sky. But seriously, I'd like all of this to melt ASAP!! (3.1 miles)
Tuesday afternoon, I picked Sam up early so we could get over to Coastal Shores where her Maine Refrain group was doing a concert for the residents. They did a great job and everyone seemed to have a fun time!
Then it was home for a quick dinner before we headed up to the Y for the end of the season LRSC swim banquet. It really is quite a team and we are so glad Sam loves it so much and is part of such a great program!
Wednesday morning's run featured another run around the neighborhood although at least this time around the roads were mostly clear, with only a few minor spots of snow and ice to contend with. (5.0 miles)
Today is the start of April vacation. Ryan is working, so Sam and I are home for the day. Got out this morning as the sky began to lighten for a short run. Couldn't resist hitting the high route on the powerlines, which were clear of snow and then got greedy and headed down to Topsham Crossing, where of course, there was lots of icy snow in the shade still 😂 Still fun though! Looped around on the back road and back via the powerlines again. Just a short loop to get the legs moving! And nice to not have to wear a headlamp and enjoy this morning's glorious sky! (3.5 miles)
It is weird and a bit sad to not be headed south over vacation to NC for a week of warmth and sunshine and time at my parent's house, but we have two fun trips later this spring/early summer to look forward and we are incredibly grateful that my parents have made their way north and will be staying with us next week and hanging out with Sam instead of us traveling to them this year! And it sure looks like Ryan and I are going to get a chance to run in some warm weather... the weather app is indicating a high of 76 tomorrow down in CT for Traprock 😮 Guess we'll call it heat training!! 😆
