End of April

Tuesday was an afternoon run down to the river and back. A nice warm breezy afternoon. Ferns and false hellebore coming up among the river with trout Lily, false lily of the valley and starflower greenery showing through the leaf litter on the forest floor. (6.0 miles)

Wednesday was a late afternoon walk with Ryan. (2.6 miles walked)

Thursday, I didn’t want to go out in the morning dark rainy dreariness so went out in the late afternoon dark rainy dreariness instead ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Hobblebush is coming out, and the training arbutus are going strong. Lots of bluets and violets too. (6.2 miles)

Friday, I got out on the powerlines at 6:30 am as I had to go into the office for a morning meeting and then had a massage with Lauren and a bunch of errands to get done too. Nice morning. Towhee calling in the brush, hairy woodpecker low on a tree and two deer seen. And so many trailing arbutus. (8.1 miles)

Really meant to get out on Saturday morning for a run before I headed up to Riverland for my start/finish aid station captain shift from 8:00 to 4:00 but it was dark and dreary and I really didn't want to. So alas, it was a no run day. Started raining as I headed north and was on and off raining all day, with the overall feeling being very cold, damp and raw. Not ideal weather to be standing outside in all day long, but this is the last Riverlands 100 after 10 years running and I was glad to be there to catch up with friends, and cheer on and help runners as they came through on the course. Val and Mindy have done an amazing job with this race and created and grown such a great community - it takes so much heart and soul and time and energy and love and attention - truly amazing! But I also completely understand how after 10 years, it is time for this chapter to come to a close. Got home around 5:30, exhausted and cold, but happy to have been there to be a part of it ๐Ÿ’—

Ryan took off on Sunday morning for a conference in California, and after some time in the morning spent on the couch reading and then doing some home and work work on the computer, I headed out for a run after lunch. Kind of dreary, overcast and breezy. Things are greening up out there and there are trailing arbutus in bloom everywhere. (10.0 miles)
