Humid!💦

Humid, heavy, sweaty, muggy - I'd say that pretty much sums up the week. Aie!

Worked until lunchtime on Monday and then Ryan and I headed down to Harpswell for a walk as the rain had stopped and it seemed like a good idea to get outside for a bit of movement. We decided on Long Reach as our destination but the mosquitos were out in force, we were literally swarmed by them by 0.1 miles in, had both been bitten and so decided to abort, pretty much just running back to the car! Holy moly, that was not a good idea! 😱😂🦟(0.25 miles walked)

After regrouping, we headed down to Potts Point so that the afternoon wouldn't be a total lost cause😅 and had a nice mellow walk out through the neighborhood to loop around the point. As always, lovely to be out by the water, and even thought it was incredibly humid, at least there were no mosquitos! (1.2 miles walked)

Beach peas

Such pretty views from the point

Tuesday was the 4th of July. I headed out for a run mid-morning and while it wasn’t raining, I finished so soaked and dripping with sweat, it might as well have been! On the plus side lots of stops for blueberries and the heavy sweet smell of ferns and milkweed in the air plus a hummingbird sighting. (9.0 miles)

We met up with Emily down in Portland at Rising Tide for lunch and VT 100 discussion. It poured like crazy while we were there, but luckily we were nice and dry under their big outside tent! It was fun to catch up and good for Ryan and Emily to have a chance to review things before next weekend's race. I am bummed I won't be joining in on the fun but someone has to pick up the kiddo from camp 😉😆😊

Thursday, I got up and out early for a road run through town. Once again, so sweaty 💦 maybe I should just assume that’s a given and not have to mention it?! 💦💦😆😆 (7.0 miles)

I headed over to Brad on Friday morning. It was one of those days where the second you step out the door, you can just feel the humidity hit you. Definitely rough. I ran up Northern Loop to the summit and back down, and then headed up Switchback and down Terrace, and then just ran around randomly for bit extra before looping back to the parking lot to pick up Anne and Mindy. I had only run 4 miles but I was totally soaked! Had some water and changed my shirt, but it didn't matter much 😂😂 The three of us looped around on the east side before coming back to the lot at 10:00 for another drink of water and to pick up Val, who had hill repeats on her schedule, so we followed her up Switchback, down Terrace, up Ski Trail, and reverse, mostly hiking the ups and chatting away as we did so. It was good to get in some hills, and is always nice to have a chance to catch up with the ladies, but wow, it was not the most comfortable weather to be out running in, and 9 miles was definitely more than enough. Whew! (9.0 miles)

The breeze picked up a bit later in the afternoon and by the time we headed out to Enoteca Athena for dinner, it felt reasonably pleasant out. As always, a fun, and delicious, dinner!

Didn't sleep well and woke up not feeling the great on Saturday, so just had a mellow morning on the couch and called an audible on the plan to run long for the day. Finally got myself out for some plodding miles mid morning. Cooler but still so humid. But yummy blueberries en route and first wood lilies of the season! 🤩🤩 (8.4 miles)

After lunch, Ryan and I headed out for a walk around the block before we went to the movie theatre to see the new Indiana Jones movie. Still sticky out there but better with a bit of a breeze at least. (1.7 miles walked)

The movie was a lot of fun!

Sunday was the Scuffle, so I headed out in the misty rain to help with registration, fend off the mosquitos, and enjoyed the chance to say hi to everyone! Didn't end up getting out for a run until after lunch, but as we had no plans and no kiddo at home, it really didn't matter much. Rather gooey out there. But the recent rain and humidity are really bringing the mushrooms out, so there’s that 😜 A bit of bushwhacking in an attempt to figure out how they are connecting the new bridge in. Haven’t quite sorted it out yet though 🤷‍♀️ Lots of partridge berry in bloom, some yummy blueberries, and one young porcupine seen. Ryan found me about 3/4 mile from the end so we finished up the run together 😊(7.3 miles)

Meanwhile, at camp, it looks like Sam and her friends have been having fun and spending a lot of time in the water and hanging out! 😊😊
