Wednesday was a dark and chilly run on Highland Green Road and Canam. The loss of light right now is so noticeable on these early morning runs. (6.0 miles)
A nor'easter rolled in overnight, with whipping winds and hard rains. I woke up at 2:30 am and things were so noisy, I couldn't even fall back asleep. I finally padded downstairs around 5:00 am and sat in the darkness enjoying some coffee until the phone rang indicating a 2 hour delay. No running this morning, that's for sure. It was whipping outside! Then around 7:00 am, another call, no school.
It was seriously nasty out there and many lost power. We are incredibly lucky where we are, as we rarely lose power since one of the sub-stations is right next to the complex! I went into work around 9:00 am once the winds and rain had died down a bit. Lots of debris on the roads but full power in-town Brunswick at least. Sam stayed home and had a lazy day making slime, reading, watching TV, and generally being a bit bored while Ryan worked upstairs.
We finished up the night with a game of Life and a few rounds of Kings in the Corner. Nice in a way to have a quiet midweek evening with time to sit together and play games (even if Life drives me batty 😝😜). Doesn't happen very often!
If we were gamblers, we would have bet the district wouldn't have had school today, but we wouldn't have won entirely, as all other schools were in session today except Woodside, due to no power at the school itself. Strange, as I thought snow/storm days were district-wide. But who knows.
So it was another mellow morning, although this time I got up and out the door a little before 7:00 am for a run. Enjoyed the glorious golden early morning light along the powerlines as the sun rose above the low clouds and was happy to see that not all the fall foliage had fallen during the storm. The miles out in the Cathance were part run/part pick up sticks 😂 (with a few too big for me to move) and the bog bridges were extra slick. Nice morning though, and always good to get out in the calm after the storm! (6.2 miles)
Sam slept until 8:30, so she wasn't even awake when I got home! Wow. Then she spent the next few hours hanging out in front of the TV while Ryan worked and I headed out to do my typical Friday errands like bringing the recycling to the transfer station, dropping books due at the library, picking up fresh produce at the farmer's market and getting the grocery shopping done. Then Sam helped me clean the house and once that was done we headed out for the afternoon.
No school = a fun lunch date with my girl 💗 plus gelato of course. 😉😋 Then we wandered around the stores she loves downtown and explored the Bowdoin art museum. A good storm day afternoon indeed!!
