Another busy week with a lot going on at work and a lot of fun at home. It is hard to believe that we now have a 13 year old daughter! Seriously, where does the time go? The days are long sometimes, in a very different way then when Sam was young, but the years, they truly seem so short and time is just flying by.
Had a late afternoon work meeting on Monday, so there was no walking or running. Tuesday, I was up and out right at 5:30 into the darkness. Ran Highland Green Road and then wandered back on the powerlines, enjoying the pre-dawn colors lighting up the sky. Beautiful. (6.0 miles)
Later, I got in a short walk during evening swim practice. Darkness is coming so early now that I didn't walk for too long, but it was a lovely evening and nice to get out at the end of the day. (1.4 miles walked)
Wednesday, I got out for an afternoon run after Sam's parent/teacher conference. It had rained on and off all day and was overcast, damp and kind of clammy out, but the ferns smelled lovely and the colors, which are just starting to pop in a few spots, always look brighter on a gray day. Rain started up again in the final mile. (6.0 miles)
I worked from home on Thursday, which was nice as I was also trying to run around and get the house cleaned and things organized for Irene and Dana's arrival as well as bake Sam's birthday cake! Sam requested the donut cake for the 5th year in a row - I think it's now solidly a tradition πππ
After we had dinner and I sent Sam off to the Y for practice with Irene, Dana and Ryan, I got a few more things done and then frosted the cake. It sure smelled delish, and truly, it does look like a giant donut! So fun and so good!
Friday morning, I was up and out around 6:45 for a run on the powerlines, just as the sky was lighting up with color. So pretty! (6.7 miles)
Ryan and Dana played 9 holes of golf mid-morning and then Irene, Sam and I met up with them for lunch at Wild Oats, which is always a good choice. It was a gorgeous day and so a bit later in the afternoon, we headed over to the Cathance for a mellow meander in the woods, enjoying the foliage reflecting in the river. (1.2 miles walked)
Then Mom and Dad came over for dinner and cake once we got back from our walk. So fun to celebrate this almost-13 year old together! π
Out a little before 7:00 on Saturday morning for a run down to the river and back. The light on the trees as I was crossing the street was glorious, and the views out along the Heath were lovely. Foliage is certainly looking nice! 10 deer seen. (6.0 miles)
Then it was home to prepare for more celebrations! Sam had five of her friends over for some cupcake decorating fun, pizza, laughter and maybe just a bit of chaos ππ But it was fun to see the girls together, and I love that she has chosen to surround herself with such good kids.
Ryan headed over to Big Brad in the early morning darkness Sunday morning, while I stayed in bed until the sky started to lighten. Had a quiet few hours until Sam woke up around 8:00, and after wishing her a happy birthday, I headed out for my run. Ran out on the powerlines and onto the Foreside trails for a nice lollypop loop. Cold, bright and beautiful, with a nice layer of frost atop the leaves and grasses and the smell of ferns and fall in the air. (6.3 miles)
Then it was off to the aid station for a few hours of cheering, helping out runners and catching up with friends, along with a short walk down to the river and back with the birthday girl ππ(0.95 miles walked)
After a stop back at home for lunch, we headed up to Fairwinds Farm to pick some pumpkins and then to Fielder's Choice for what else but ice cream. πππGotta keep the birthday celebrations going! And maybe we are going to need to rein in the sugar for a bit after this long weekend of cake, donuts, cupcakes and ice cream too ππ
After a bit of relaxation at home, we headed over to Mom and Dad's for the final portion of this weekend's celebrations. Mom was very creative with her gift delivery - 13 gifts, even if it was just one jibbitz, each with a sweet note corresponding to each year of Sam's lifeπ- and Sam was thrilled with her white crocs! We had sushi and leftover cake for dinner and then headed home to get to bed. Everyone was tired out, but it was a fun-filled weekend of celebrating our newly minted teenager with family and friends π
