Getting It Done

The last week before Christmas vacation... Sam was sick, work was crazy with three late night meetings, and it is all about just surviving and getting it done! Aie😜

Tuesday morning, I just did not feel at all enthused to run in the rainy, windy darkness but wanted to get in at least a little movement before a long work day ending with a 5:30 meeting 😩 so I went for a walk instead. 🤷‍♀️ Dreary, damp, warm and windy. (2.3 miles walked)

Wednesday morning was a run through Highland Green in the semi-darkness. Pavement was slick with iced over moisture. Damp and calm. (6.0 miles)

Thursday was an afternoon run on the cart paths, running into the sunset. Windy, cool and kind of oddly semi-frozen underfoot. Pretty sky. (6.0 miles)

Friday, I got out early for a run on the roads in Highland Green (6.0 miles), did some errands, and then headed over to Pineland to meet up with Val, Mindy and Anne for a walk and coffee. It was so good to see everyone and nice to catch up! Brr, chilly! (2.9 miles walked)

The cutest little pine needle bird's nest!

Sam had a high school swim meet on Friday night. She was still not back to 100% with a lot of coughing going on 😓but she rallied and swam solidly, even jumping in to take over a spot from a teammate who was also not feeling well in the final event of the meet, the 400 meter free relay. And the girls managed to pull off the win for the night, which is always nice!

Of course, then when we finally got home, it was clear she had probably overexerted herself a bit, so we decided it would be wise to skip the LRSC meet on Saturday. Always a bummer to have to miss out on the events, but in the name of getting healthy before we see everyone for the holidays, it seemed like a wise move.

With that, Saturday was a quiet day. It was nice to relax on the couch a bit in the early morning darkness and then I hit the farmer's market at 9:00 and picked up donuts before finally heading out for a run around 10:30. Cold and windy. I ran the cart paths and out in the Cathance. So many ice formations! And so much semi-frozen ground and so many semi-frozen puddles underfoot. (10.0 miles)

Then we did some present wrapping in the late afternoon, got take-out for dinner and finished up season 47 of Survivor to finish up the day.

Temps were in the low single digits on Sunday morning with a feel like temp of -8 degrees and a lot of very unfriendly and cold wind. Brrr! I waited until 9:00 am and then set out on the powerlines.  Everything, including me, was frozen solid 😂🥶 (9.0 miles)

Later in the afternoon, we suited up in all.the.layers and headed up to the Botanical Gardens for Gardens Aglow. It was definitely cold but we all had in hand and toe warmers and we took a number of stops inside the buildings, and it wasn't all that bad, especially as the wind wasn't as strong among the trees in the gardens. And as always, it was a fun evening with so many lights! They really do a great job. (1.6 miles walked)

And of course, the kettle corn was a hit! 😋
