This week Sam achived a teenage milestone - braces! ๐The appointment itself went pretty smoothly, but she soon became fairly cranky from the discomfort. Can't say I blame her, but we've all told her it will get better, so fingers crossed she has a fairly easy rest of the way to straight teeth!
Tuesday, I headed out a little after six for a run on the powerlines. The sun was a cool looking orb in the sky that I knew meant there was smoke in the air from the Canadian wildfires that had finally filtered into our area but it was pretty. Kept is nice and easy, as surely the air quality was pretty poor. So many wood lilies, some yummy blueberries, creaky legs and a whole lot of deer flies. Also, still humid ๐ฆ(6.1 miles)
Tuesday, Ryan and I got out for walk around the school block just after a random afternoon downpour. Cooler but still very humid. (1.7 miles walked)
Skipped the run on Wednesday as the air quality was still pretty bad, but got out on Thursday morning a little after 6:00 am for a run on the cart paths, with a few road miles at the end. Cooler and less muggy. I mean, I was still sweating but not soaked, so hurray! (7.0 miles)
Headed out around 7:00 am for a road run around town. Foggy and humid but temps were at least feeling reasonable. Three killdeer and one great blue heron seen, plus the first few blackberries of the season! (10.0 miles)
Then it was a quick trip to the farmer's market before driving Sam south to meet up with Lauren and family down in Old Orchard Beach for the weekend. A lot of people and a lot of traffic, but thankfully it wasn't too bad on the way home. Picked up Ryan after his game of golf with Rick and we headed into Brunswick for a lunch date at Maiz. The mushroom and plantain arepa was delish. And then we headed next door for a yummy iced coffee. Fun!
Saturday was a berry run out on the powerlines. Hard to resist the pull of the Powerlines this time of year with the berries and wood lilies. All the berries - blue, rasp and black! - meant too many stops but it sure was delish. Warm and muggy. (10.0 miles)
Later in the afternoon, I joined Ryan for a walk around the block. Warm but the breeze felt nice. (1.8 miles walked)
Had pondered going to Bradbury for the group run today but in the end, just stuck around here. Not sure if I made the right choice, or if having people to run with would have helped with my energy, but I didn't have much of it today! Felt like a bit of a slog. Definitely warmer and trending hot, but didn't feel as muggy, which was nice. Ran out through the Cathance to Head of Tides - so many mushrooms! - and was thrilled to discover a nice, very ripe patch of black raspberries out there. Those are my favorites, and the season is so short. Delish! Then I looped back home via the road and powerlines to fill pick up another flask of Summit Tea and get more water, before finishing up with a very slow lope back out on the powerlines and the roads. They've finished the trail that connects down to the new bridge in the Cathance, so that was fun, and of course, out on the powerlines there were lots of ripe raspberries and blueberries to stop and eat. (20.0 miles)
