This morning, I figured I'd gamble, wear the screwshoes and see how far I got. The screws in my Ultras are getting really worn down anyway, so if I had to abort and run the Highland Green loop, it wouldn't be too big of a deal. But, surprisingly, the trails were pretty solid. I didn't sink through at all, although there were some sunny spots where the top layer of snow was a bit crunchy and loose. Of course, there were many posthole landmines and a lot of uneven footing to contend with, so it wasn't all smooth sailing and it wasn't the fastest, but in the end, not a bad tour around the Dump Loop on a beautiful and crisp end of March morning.
